Charles Samuel Pownell

Funeral service for Mr. Charles Samuel Pownell who passed away in a local hospital on Sunday, February 17, 2013 will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 E. Chipco Street with The Pastor Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Pownell was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus and Letitia Pownell; wife, Thelma Pownell; brothers, Will James, Gustus Pownell and Phillip Pownell; sisters, Ivy Pownell, Theresa Pownell and Rosean Pownell.

Mr. Pownell leaves to cherish precious memories with his sons, Nevil Pownell and Chavez Pownell; daughters, Morine Pownell and Viris Pownell Williams (Nathaniel); step son Derrick Dunbar (Andrea); step daughter, Claudette Ferguson (Morris); grandchildren, Jerome Williams, Botavia, Chavez, Jr., Dyquishia and Avant Pownell; great grandchildren, Chase and Skai Toussaint; a host of nephews, nieces and other sorrowing relatives and friends.

A native of Cavaliers, St. Andrew, Jamaica Mr. Pownell had resided in the Tampa bay area since 1962. He was a former employee with Hillsborough County Government where he worked as a Facility Management Custodian from February 1971 until he retired on May 29, 1992. Mr. Pownell also delivered newspapers for the Florida Sentinel Bulletin for several years. He was a member of St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.

The remains will repose on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, FL.
