Funeral service for Brenda “Lil Nana” will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Bible Based Fellowship Church (Carrollwood), 4904 Ehrlich Road, Tampa, Florida, with the Pastor Reverend Dr. Arthur T. Jones, officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Tampa, FL.

Brenda Louise Cowen Youngblood was born on November 17, 1955, in Tampa, Florida to Mr. James Cowen, Sr., and Mazola B. Cowen. She matriculated through the Hillsborough County public school system and was a graduate of Robinson High School, Class of 1973. After graduation, Brenda worked for various medical facilities throughout the Tampa Bay area. At the time of her passing, Brenda was working at the University of South Florida.

Brenda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Throughout her childhood she attended Mount Olive A.M.E. Church of Tampa, Florida; however, as an adult, she joined and was a faithful member of Bible Based Fellowship Church (Carrollwood) for nearly 20 years, where she was an active member of the Cathedral Choir. Brenda loved reading, politics, gospel music, and singing. She was blessed to have nurtured and raised four awesome sons that she proudly spoke of often. More than anything, she adored, cherished, and loved her grandchildren to whom she was fondly known as “Lil Nana.”

She was called home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2012. Brenda is survived by her parents, James E. Cowen, Sr., and Mazola B. Cowen; children: Lamar Larry, Jr., Adrian Cowen, Jaris Youngblood (Nina), Naeem Youngblood (Jessica); grandchildren: Au’lexcia, AuLeecia, Jalen, Tyler, Ashton, Adian, Jaquavia, Kevon, Jarkese, Jaris Jr., Jalin, Jawan, Nina, Jaliyah, Logic, and Taisho; siblings: Terri Cowen, Rhonda Rollock (Kenneth), James Cowen, Jr. (Elizabeth), Elder Kimberly Queen; nieces: Antonika Shellman, LaKisha M. Kinsey-Sallis (LaPlace III), Candice Cowen, Kayla Rollock, Felicia Rollock; nephews: Oscar Gainous, Terrell Gainous, Rodney Lang, Richard Franklin, Reginald Sanders II, Austin Queen, Jordan Rhynes, Isaiah Cowen, Nicholas Cowen, Christopher Rollock; grand nephews: Rodney Lang, Jr., Deon-tre Gainous, Skyler Finny, LaPlace Sallis IV, Tye Finney, Ryan Franklin, Keshon Gainous, Langston Sallis, John Jones, Jr.; grand nieces, Akua Jackson, DeChae Gainous, Ja’Nya Jones, Ri’Nyah Franklin; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Brenda was preceded in death by her grand nephew, Dominique Shellman.

Her viewing will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Bible Based Fellowship Church (Carrollwood). THERE WILL BE NO VIEWING FOLLOWING THE EULOGY.
